Welcome to Berkeley Physical Therapy Blog! As the first post on the Berkeley Physical Therapy blog were looking at my favorite thing… exercise.
I love exercise. My personal belief is that I cannot get too much. I had a bad injury two years ago, which took away my ability to run, but I can walk. So this weekend I am walking 26.2 miles. Get the idea…I love exercise.
But how much is the right amount? For those of us who aren’t exercise junkies, like myself, do we need to be exercising an hour every day? Is 30 minutes enough? Is it too much?
A recent article in the New York Times examines the right does of exercise for optimal health and a long life. For many years the recommended dosage of exercise was set at 30 minutes, 3 times/week. Exercising more rigorously and for longer seemed to have no increased benefit. Is this still the recommendation?
